Dear Guest,

Thank you for entering the “Poetry” Study Link on the Grace Bible Church of Hampton Roads website!

Most of you, like me, have not only studied God’s Word through the joy of reading verse by verse, but also through helpful written materials, outstanding teachers, beautiful music and insightful conversations with like minded believers.

So many times we are driven to the Scriptures by the pain of earthly circumstances or during times of questioning the doctrinal beliefs of others. It was during some of those times for me that I wrote in forms of inspirational poetry. Word studies and recording life’s application from God’s Word was very comforting as well. Over the years, these writings have accumulated in notebooks and on little pieces of paper, whatever could be found at that time. Earlier this year, I began adding to and arranging them to share with others.
My prayer is that the following inspirational poetry will encourage you with worthy Bible doctrine and praise. If you are a new Christian or are new to studying His Word rightly divided, I pray the Lord will use this very small resource to help you hide God’s Word in your mind and heart.

With fullness of joy, may you continue to grow in God’s grace and may Jesus Christ receive all the glory!

In Christ,

Lorrie Kinlaw

At The Right Hand of God

My Lord is seated at the right hand of God
It is this same Lord who made the sacrifice
And was risen to the heavenly place
To make all intercession for us

My Savior sits at the right hand of God
An honored place for the Lord of Lords
He’s far above all power, might and dominion
My Lord, my Savior, He is risen

My Lord is seated at the right hand of God
Above every name that is named in this world
God gave Him to be head over the church
Which is His body, filling all in all

My Savior sits at the right hand of God
An honored place for the Lord of Lords
He’s far above all power, might and dominion
My Lord, My Savior, He is risen
Seated at the right hand of God…

Change Me

When I’m always asking for deliverance
May I walk strong in Your forgiveness
The Spirit of God dwells in me and is more
Than anything our enemy has in store

Change me, Lord
Within my circumstances
That I may honor and glorify
Your name, each and every day

When the sun shines or when the rain pours
Sinking into the valley or about to soar
Help me to remember these highs and lows
Are our portion of living in this fallen world

Change me, Lord
Within my day to day
That I may live in thanksgiving
And praise Your holy name

When I’m always looking to prosper
May I know what Your Word has promised
To those in the fellowship, the body of Christ
Who are called according to Your purpose

Change me, Lord
Within my circumstances
That I may honor and glorify
Your name, each and every day

Change me, Lord
Within my day to day
That I may live in thanksgiving
And praise Your holy name

He

He releases me
With His words of truth
From the bondage of my sin
Offenses against my God
Are completely forgiven

He releases me, He releases me

He comforts me
With His words of peace
When the lows of life have set in
Soothes the aches in my heart
Allows His peace to reign

He comforts me, He comforts me

He relieves me
With His words of grace
Of the burden to perform
From guilt of keeping the law
The trap of man’s opinion

He relieves me, He relieves me

He strengthens me
With His words of hope
Strength for this earthly life
And an eternity with Him
Because I’ve trusted in Christ

He strengthens me, He strengthens me

In the Pattern of Paul

In the pattern of Paul…

Lord, help us be the ambassadors you wish us to be
Not easily offended, hurt or frightened away
In sharing the fellowship of the mystery in love
That we may be without offense until that day

Lord, help us each live in agreement with Your perfect will
Reflecting the fruits of righteousness day by day
The body, created in Christ Jesus unto good works
That were before ordained that we should walk in them

Let us walk our walk in the pattern of Paul
Who was given his commission by the risen Lord
Let us talk our talk, words of wisdom and love
That we too, like Paul, may be approved
By the Father above

In the pattern of Paul….

Lord, help us to live a life with a heart of thanksgiving
The eyes of our understanding being enlightened
To the glorious riches of this inheritance
And that we may know the power of His might

Lord, help us to comfort those in the body of precious saints
Ceasing not to give thanks for them in our prayers
Encouraging each other with words of wisdom and grace
In fellowship and to study the fullness of Your Word

Isn’t it Just Our Pride?

Isn’t it just our pride
That wants to do it our own way
Many roads, are said, will lead to God
And thinking that there’s one more day

Isn’t it just our pride
That keeps us separate from Him
Questioning His all sufficiency
Fearing some unforgivable sin

Take this pride, Lord
Wash it away
It was He who died to forgive our sins
It was He alone who rose the third day

Cleanse my heart, Lord
Of these unrighteous thoughts
It is He who has promised eternal life
It is only He, our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

Isn’t it just our pride
That says we just can not forgive
The wounds of our hearts are way too deep
No one understands what they did

Isn’t it just our pride
That keeps the flesh at work today
Good deeds, clean living and short accounts
Comfortable words we routinely pray

Take this pride, Lord
Wash it away
It was He who died to forgive our sins
It was He alone who rose the third day

Cleanse my heart, Lord
Of these unrighteous thoughts
It is He who has promised eternal life
It is only He, our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

Kindred Through His Blood

Kindred through His blood
Made nigh unto Him
Fellow citizens with the Saints
Members, the household of God

Strangers, lost, alienated
Look where we were before
Behind the wall of partition,
Without hope, a foreigner

Kindred through His blood
Made nigh unto God
By one Spirit to our Father
Christ, the chief cornerstone

Absent of the Spirit, and in the flesh
Remember where we were before
Not in Christ, far off
Without God in the world

Kindred through The blood
Made nigh unto Him
In heavenly places
We are raised, Praise our Lord
Praise our Lord…

New Creation

It is with this sinful heart, Dear Lord
That I did believe unto righteousness
When I placed my faith in Your Son
Your Spirit then made me new...

Now, I am a new creation
By the gospel of my salvation
Sealed by the Spirit of God
Until the day of redemption

May we proclaim with boldness, Dear Lord
How Your forgiveness can set all at rest
With each one who believes on You
Your Spirit will make them new...

We are a brand new creation
Jew and gentile as one
Whosoever will trust
Is transformed by Your Son

One

One body of believers
Jew and gentile as one
One Spirit who seals us
Till the day of redemption

One hope of our calling
To the heavenlies
One Lord who died
To forgive all our sins

So, make every effort to keep
The unity of the Spirit
In the bond of peace
Maturing to perfection
Humble and patient
Forbearing in love

One faith in the finished work
Of Jesus Christ alone
One baptism by God’s Spirit
Unto our salvation

And One God the Father
Who is and fills all in all
Maturing us to perfection
Humble and patient
Forbearing in love

So, make every effort to keep
The unity of the Spirit
In the bond of peace

Only In Him

Only in Him…
Is there now no condemnation
From His love, we cannot be separated
In Him, our eternal purposes rest
Full redemption and righteousness

Only in Christ…
Are we blessed with all spirituals
in that heavenly place
An expression of His kindness
Unto us, His love and grace

In Jesus Christ and only Him
Glorious truths to be found
And in the depths of His Word
May we diligently expound
To gain this full assurance
Of the oneness we have with Him

Only in Him…
Are we created unto good works
And sharers of the promise together
With confidence and with boldness,
We have access to our Father

Our Identity

Our identity must rest in Jesus Christ
That position we should claim
Grasp His loving kindness
Lift up His precious, holy name

A state of true perfection we enjoy
Like we’ve never sinned at all
Forgiveness of no limitations
The moment we accepted His call

There is a oneness in Jesus Christ
A most perfect unity
Connected without bounds
An indistinguishability

Recognized by the Father above
As He recognizes the Son
Made righteous and set apart
Because we rest in the Chosen One

Our identity must rest in Jesus Christ
Though we may not fully comprehend
A condition of wholeness, of union
What a blessed Savior, one true Friend

Place Your Identity in Christ

Why should we get our identity
In money, possessions, from where we live
And earthly idols we think give us status
For what we worship here will quickly pass

Place your identity in Christ
Forgiveness and eternal life
A hope for today
Our identity should be in Christ
All else is fading away

Should we get our identity
From the politics, clubs and societies
Caring so deeply what other people say
And how our minds can change from day to day

Place your identity in Christ
Not in earthly goods
Not in the thoughts of men
Nor of empty works
For it was Christ died and rose again

How can we get our identity
From works accomplished in the flesh
In denominations, good living, what we pay
For these works of the flesh are not God’s way

Place your identity in Christ
Forgiveness and eternal life
A hope for today
Get your identity from Christ
All else is fading away
Everything else is fading away…

Powerless Without You

It’s by the power of Your Spirit
That we show the love of Christ
And encourage one another
With a heart of tenderness

It’s Your power that works in us
Patience, long suffering with joy
Of love and of a sound mind
Strength with humility

For without You, we are…
Powerless to serve in
Powerless to grow in
Powerless to comprehend
The abundant riches of Your Grace

And we are…
Too weak to love
Feeble in hope
Lacking in faith
Without the might of Your Spirit in us

It’s Your power that rests in us
To ground us in faith, hope and love
May we walk worthy of the call
Set before us in Your word

For without You, we are…
Powerless to serve in
Powerless to grow in
The abundant riches in Your grace

And we are…
Too weak to love
Feeble in hope
Lacking in faith
Without the Holy Spirit leading us

Rooted and Grounded in His Love

Established by Spirit of God
Indwells, seals and is the promise
Fills us with fruits of righteousness
That we may be rooted and grounded
In His love

Nourished by His written Word
Study His book as He’s prescribed
To understand the mysteries of God
That we may be rooted and grounded
In His love

Rooted and Grounded in His love
He’s our firm foundation, our origin
The One from which our fruits are born
Rooted and grounded in His love

Strengthened by this local church
A gathering of fellowship in Him
For study, prayer and encouragement
That we may be rooted and grounded
In His love

Rooted and Grounded in His love
He’s our firm foundation, our origin
The One from which all grace is drawn
Rooted and grounded in His love

Sealed

Sealed with the Spirit, The Holy Ghost
The moment we trust, He baptizes us
Into one body where Christ is our head
A down payment, guarantee, a pledge

Sealed with His Spirit, the Spirit of promise
Desiring to bear His fruit through us
Sets us apart, the wheat from the chaff
Interceding in prayer on our behalf

Sealed with the Spirit, the Spirit of God
Enlightens our mind to the hope of His call
Comforts us with His truth, His story
Christ in you, our hope of glory

The Armor

Put on the whole armor of God
That you may be able to stand against
The whiles of the devil, our enemy
Darkness of this age, principalities

And stand, stand with your waist
Encircled, strengthened by the truth
And a breastplate not made of iron
But of God’s pure righteousness

Take unto you the whole armor of God
To withstand in the evil day
Wrestling not against flesh and blood
Having done all to hold your ground

And bind, bind to your feet
The readiness of the gospel of peace
And take up the shield of faith
To quench the darts of our enemy

And place, place upon your heads
The helmet of your salvation
And take up the Spirit’s sword
The word of the one true God

Now put on the whole armor of God
And praying always in the Spirit
Battling hosts of wickedness
Ever watchful to this end

The Heavens and The Earth

The heavens and the earth
Created by God, a purpose two-fold
One kept hidden, one long foretold

Created by and for Jesus Christ
Whom both plans revolve
Their King upon the earth
Our Lord in heaven above

Truths of prophets long foretold
A chosen people, the Jewish nation
Their kingdom on this earth
Representing the world, Christ as King will reign

The heavens and the earth
Created by God, a purpose two-fold
One kept hidden, one long foretold

Created by and for Jesus Christ
Whom both plans revolve
Their King upon the earth
Our Lord in heaven above

A mystery that was hid in God
Completing His plan, whosoever wills
The church, which is His body
A heavenly position, Christ as Head will reign

Walk in Love

Walk in love towards all men
Ready to give, willing to share
Being rich in the good works
That God did before prepare

Walk in love towards all men
Minds renewed by His Word
Full of truth, grown in grace
Knowing the will of the Lord

Walk in love towards all men
A life of prayer and teaching
Proclaim the riches of His Grace
Praise His name with thanksgiving

Christ walked in love toward all men
We love because He first loved us
Gave His life a sacrifice for sin
That through Him we live by grace

And walk in love, walk in love…

Walk Worthy

Walk worthy, unto all pleasing
Upright and circumspect
Redeeming the times
Becoming of His elect

Walk worthy, filled with the Spirit
Sharers of His glorious light
With wisdom, joy and prudence
In the power of His might

Walk worthy, in newness of life
Our affections on things above
The breadth, length, depth and height
His exceeding abundant love

Walk worthy, with much thanksgiving
Until this faith becomes sight
Glorify the One who sacrificed
Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ

We Are Saved By Grace

By the law it can be seen that we all fall short and sin
But the gentiles were never under the law
And is by the Spirit's guidance that we say no to sin

The Spirit and the law cannot reside together
It is either the one or it is the other
The Spirit of the law is love, created by the Father

We are saved by grace and only grace
It was Jesus Christ who died, who took our place
The law had it’s time and purpose in God’s bigger plan
But, it is through faith in Jesus Christ alone in which this church stands

For by works of the law no man will ever be made right
Our grace is a free gift from the Lord God
We are emptiness, not a thing to boast of in His sight

We are saved by grace and only grace
It was Jesus Christ who died, who took our place
The law had it’s time and purpose in God’s bigger plan
But, it is through faith in Jesus Christ alone in which this body stands
